Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 26, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Monkey Type (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses and protects information when you use Monkey Type free online typing test (the “Website”), including our online typing speed test.
Information We Collect
Information you give us. If you create an account, we collect the username, email address and password you provide. You may also choose to add optional profile details such as a country or avatar. Passwords are stored in encrypted (hashed) form.
Typing test data. When you take a test we process results such as words per minute (WPM), accuracy, test mode and duration. If you are signed in, your results and settings (for example theme, test length and other preferences) are saved to your account so you can see your history and appear on leaderboards.
Information stored in your browser. We use your browser’s local storage and a small number of essential cookies to remember your preferences and keep you signed in. If you use the test without an account, your settings stay in your own browser.
Technical information. Like most websites, our servers and security providers automatically receive standard information such as your IP address, browser type, device type and pages visited. This is used to deliver the site, keep it secure and fix problems.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide and run the typing test and save your results and preferences
- To create and manage your account and let you sign in
- To show your username and scores on public leaderboards (if you take part)
- To keep the Website secure and prevent abuse, cheating and spam
- To improve the Website’s features and performance
- To respond to messages you send us
Leaderboards and Public Information
If you appear on a leaderboard, your username, country (if provided), avatar (if provided) and scores are visible to other visitors. Your email address and password are never shown publicly.
Cookies
We use only cookies and local storage that are needed for the Website to work, such as keeping you logged in and remembering your settings. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, but some features, such as staying signed in, may stop working.
Third-Party Services
We use trusted third parties to run the Website. They may process limited technical data (such as your IP address) on our behalf:
- Cloudflare – content delivery and security protection
- Google Fonts – to display web fonts
- Our web hosting provider – to store the Website and its database
These services have their own privacy policies. We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information to anyone.
Data Retention
We keep account information and saved results for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, or ask us to delete it, we remove your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must keep it for legal or security reasons.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, download or delete your personal information, or to object to how we use it. You can update most details from your account, or contact us at [email protected] and we will respond within a reasonable time.
Data Security
We use reasonable technical measures, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections and hashed passwords, to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage over the internet is 100% secure.
Children’s Privacy
The Website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
